This months Create and Chat was a bit different- we invited Mavis Clark to come a show us how to create Shetland lace!
Lots of ladies came to give it ago, although the techniques needed a bit of concentration, many of us produced a small bit of lace!
The different types were explained, the rough shawls or ‘haps’ were for the ladies to wear over their coats but the finer, plucked wool was used to create fine lace for the Rich ladies, including Queen Victoria liking Shetland lace stockings!
I managed a small bit!
